A Unique Virtual School for Years 7 & 8. Ages 11 - 13. Study from anywhere.

Year 7 & 8 - Middle School

We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new Middle School (Years 7 & 8) in September 2023. MVA’s newest and youngest pupils will receive the same award-winning education as their older peers, but with an exciting twist: a unique, forward-thinking curriculum specifically designed for their age group.

Year 7 & 8 students will develop new subject-specific skills and study habits that will prepare them for later learning. They will be encouraged to think creatively and critically in response to a diverse and challenging curriculum that has been designed to instil a lifetime love of learning as well as a greater sense of self and confidence - all areas that Minerva has been passionate about since its founding in 2014.

As with MVA’s Senior School, new Year 7 & 8 pupils will participate in a full programme of school activities and lessons each week, including Assemblies, After School Clubs, Well-being classes, and our pioneering World Changer Programme where pupils are challenged to think outside of the box and work in groups to solve interesting problems.

Pupils will also benefit from one-to-one sessions with their personal mentor, who will help them grow and develop as individuals, both in and out of the classroom, and where needed, pupils will be supported with their SEND and SEMH needs.

New pupils joining MVA in Year 7 & 8 will have an advantage as they will have time to adapt to our style of education, known as "Flipped Learning," and make friends well before embarking on their pre-GCSE studies from Year 9.

What does the Curriculum look like?

In terms of academic subjects, all Middle School students will study Inner Core & Outer Core subjects and take part in the “Carousel”, where they will be able to try different subjects without commiting to a full year of study. Our curriculum has been carefully designed on two key principles:

  1. to prepare Year 7 & 8 students for future learning (in Year 9, and GCSE), and,
  2. to do so in a way that is forward-looking and progressive that will help them gain skills needed for later life

Unlike other online education providers, MVA provides a full school experience for a single fee.

The following subjects will be studied:

Inner Core Subjects (total = 4.5 hours live lessons per week):

  • English (Cambridge Lower Secondary)
  • Maths (CLS)
  • Science (CLS)

Outer Core Subjects (total = 3.75 hours live lessons per week):
