Do you love gaming? Are you passionate about the world of esports? Not sure what to do after your GCSEs?

Minerva's Virtual Academy is excited to announce our new BTEC in esports is coming to our Sixth Form in September 2023!

Welcome to Minerva's Virtual Academy, the award-winning online school for 11-18 year olds. We are proud to announce that we are now offering a BTEC in esports at Sixth Form level, a course designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the world of competitive gaming.

Students will learn about the evolution of esports as well as the business and marketing side of the industry and learn how to apply their skills to any area of the esports industry. The BTEC will provide you with the skills you need to succeed in this exciting and dynamic industry.

Due to the immense demand for a dedicated esports qualification available to more young people across the UK,  MVA has teamed up with the award-winning esports educator James Fraser-Murison (who works in partnership with Guild, Excel and Fnatic) to deliver this fantastic qualification.

The BTEC is available to any 16-year-old in the country looking to get ahead in one of the most exciting industries in the world!

What is a BTEC in esports?

BTECs are work-related qualifications awarded by Pearson, the UK's largest academic awarding organisation. The BTEC in esports is a practical, 2 year work-related course that prepares you for a career in the esports industry. The course covers a range of topics, from game design and development to event management and marketing. BTECs are equivalent to A levels and are recognised by universities, employers, and professional bodies.

Why join an online school?

We offer the flexibility to study from anywhere, which can be particularly beneficial for students who may face challenges attending physical schools or colleges. Sstudents have the freedom to create their own schedules and study at their own pace, providing greater control over their education.

MVA allows students to connect with other students from around the world and form friendships that can last a lifetime. Our buzzing community of engaged students is continually growing and evolving. We run after-school clubs that provide further opportunities for socialising and meeting like-minded peers.

We offer a highly unique sixth form program called 'Symposia,' which is designed to prepare pupils for the kind of thinking needed for the transition to university. This programme includes a series of seminars and workshops on topics such as philosophy, literature, and critical thinking, helping students to develop the skills they need to succeed in higher education.

We run a full careers service and UCAS training sessions, providing students with support and guidance as they navigate the often-challenging process of applying for universities and jobs. With our focus on preparing students for the future, we aim to ensure that our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen careers.

What qualifications do I get by studying the BTEC?

The BTEC in esports is equivalent to 1 A level and gives you the same UCAS points. The qualification is recognized by universities, colleges, and employers across the UK and around the world.

What will I learn in the course?

The BTEC in esports covers a range of topics, from game design and development to event management and marketing. You will learn how to design, develop, and manage esports events and tournaments, as well as develop your skills in game design and development.
